For as long as I can remember I have struggled to play shuffle rhythms well. They just don’t come up very often in the style of music I play most of the time. Unfortunately this means that when one does come up I can’t play as confidently as I’d like.
So I’ve decided that for the next little while I’m going to dedicate a large portion of my practice time to improving my ability to play them. That way next time a song comes up that needs one, hopefully I’ll feel a bit more in control.
At the moment I’m working on the Rosanna Shuffle (Jeff Porcaro from Toto), and trying out different kick patterns over a basic shuffle.
